Snip Snip Whizz

Well the week went by so quickly and already I haven't told you about so many things!
I'll start with what has been keeping me busy in the workroom.... snip snip snip....
400 squares, at least 35 different patterns from the 1930's onwards.....
I needed 256 squares for a  Random Squares Patchwork Throw  but ended up cutting 400 before I was happy with the colours....Pieced and piled and numbered in rows.....
Finally the stitching could begin..... stripping....
Ironing open dozens of seams as I went along....
Backed with pretty vintage Laura Ashley spriggs and a vintage rosy sheet for binding....
A brief glimpse before it was parceled off to it's new owner... oh this one was very hard to part with!
But I had other things to keep me busy! I was off to Voewood for the weekend, to enjoy the house and gardens, to meet up with friends and generally have a lovely, lovely time! It's not a bad way to earn a living is it?
The weather was very unkind. Indra had the gardens looking stunning and all the roses were doing their best but the wind and rain made it very hard for many of the stall holders to set up but set up they did and in the garden cloisters they put on a lovely display...
All manner of yumminess on one side including wonderful Robin Glass....and on the other side Faded Splendour were there with their lovely vintage clothes and fabrics...
and Emma set up with her eye for beauty in simplicity....
....she also joined me for a lovely warm up meal in the evening - all we wanted was a glass of wine and a warming bowl of risotto and we found just that! Perfect! And where was I?
More stalls this way.....
Down into the little Garden Gallery.... Oh lucky me! Out of the cold wind with Noo and Josie...
A blissful cosy corner, good company and a weekend of sitting and stitching and meeting customers new and old. I have recently been asked a lot about embroidery classes. A new project to consider in the Autumn perhaps? I have started to collect names so if  you're interested do drop me an email and I'll keep in touch once the long summer holiday is past. So much to fit in between now and then and it's only 2 weeks away!
To pass the time whilst chatting and stitching I also took to folding butterflies... I'm enjoying Origami at the moment. It helps me to relax and occupies my mind... especially when I can't work out how to complete a fold!!
Musical butterflies seemed particularly appropriate at Voewood. As a child we were often cared for by a Great Great Aunt who produced wonderful hats and toys using just old newspapers... I have never lost the sense of magic as a fold finally comes together.... How wonderful to discover a new species like this!
... settled on Josie's heart....
Another was enjoying Indra's beautiful flower arrangement....
Can you tell I got carried away? Once I master a new fold I just keep going... something from nothing. It always delights me to see what appears from the sheet of paper.
And it delights me to turn old bits and pieces of fabric into something to be treasured for years to come. Lots of magic here this week...
I hope you have a magical week ahead. Summer does seem to have arrived at last and today I am off to enjoy the sunshine!  Another busy week ahead in the workroom but the week gets off to a lovely start meeting Mrs Bun to do what we do best.... a Pick 'n' Mix Planning Lunch!! t.xx

What a fabulous and productive week you have had. The quilt is more than stunning - it's such a gorgeous and unique heirloom.

Rain? Rain? what's that? Such a shame it was unkind that day - we didn't have any here - not a solitary drip or drop.

Your life looks packed and happy, and oh so exciting - and being able to make a living out of your wondrous talent is a huge bonus indeed.

What a delight to read this post. You are quite inspiring.

The quilt is absolutely amazing. I love your organized way to establishing which square went where, and the speed with which the assembly took place. The new owner is a very, very lucky person.

The fair looks great too, even with the weather situation.

Wine and risotto? Perfect.

Yes, this is an inspirational post!

Cheers.

Wow! I love that throw. I feel very ashamed because I have a beautiful piece of patchwork, completed (made at a class with Kaffe Fassett no less) but not backed or bound or anything. I think you've just spurred me into action.Voewood looks wonderful. Wish I could have made it. Penny x
