Sorting and folding and stacking!

It all started with the buttons...
then it was the silks..
and this week, with the purchase of timber, it was time for the piles of fabric ....at last! They look very tidy here- but this doesn't last a moment once I look for a particular print, they all collapse in a heap.
But not anymore! At last I have a way to keep my fabric in neat piles even when I need that perfect shade of pink right at the bottom of the heap! All the awkward bits of this and that are now safely stored and neatly stacked! Hurrah!
It's bliss! I am particularly enjoying this section..
oh and the checks and stripes..
and this shelf has lots of my favourites..I should scan some for you to see, some are almost too precious to use!
But not quite! Now I must turn my attention to the fabrics that don't fit into the shelves! The quilts and blankets and large chintz curtains. Oh dear. I haven't the heart to tell hubby I need more shelving! t.x

I wish some of that tidiness could be sent over here. It all looks so lovely. Will you tidy away after each rummage do you think?

T'is a work of art T...and as pretty as a Candy shoppe!
I think you must have worked at Benetton once upon a time.. I remember watching the lasses measuring the T shirts as they folded them into immaculate piles.. for the next customer to come and destroy!

Oh, well done! Your sorting has been an inspiration to me already, and I've made some inroads into my fabric stash, but there is so much more to do - sigh! I do have three lovely shelves which I intend to convert into storage, but I hate painting, so I'm putting that off...

And thanks very much for the marzipan tea loaf recipe - we just finished off the last slice now! It went down VERY well.
I'm really impressed, so tidy and what a selection! :0)

There just aren't enough shelves in the world ever are there!!!!
But lady you do have a charming collection of materials there, heaven knows but I think I might be grief stricken if you opened them out and scanned them in full and unashamed glory.........

ohhh... I am so jealous! All of that cheery fabric, so happily organized. Lucky you!
I LOVE all of your fabrics in their little cubbies! They look awesome! I now have a cook closet with my fabric in it, but you have a lot more than I do!
How lovely to have things sorted. I am in the middle of that so everything feels worse than usual. My son would love to make a go cart like your son's. Would you be willing to post a picture of the mechanics that lie underneath ie a photo of the bottom of it.

Thanks so much!

Is it possible to have shelf envy?
pinkgreen said…
I have such fabric envy now! What great sorting - my stuff is scattered over the house at the moment and I have lost a big pile of feedsacks that I really want to get cracking with. I may have to tackle it soon before we disappear under the chaos!

PS I am going to make the marzipan cake today - thanks for the recipe!

Beautiful results. I am sure that seeing the fabrics in such an organized way inspires you. In my recent sewing room update, I discovered with my 30 inch wide shelves I could fold my 45 inch wide pieces in thirds and my 60 inch wide pieces in half and half again to create two evenly sized stacks (actually four because each stack has one behind it). What are the dimensions of your storage?

Oh how wonderful to have everything in order and so beautifully displayed! My workroom is still being worked, I so look forward to having everything in it's right place. You have made it look very pretty! I bet you feel more inclined to work in that room now. Really nice.

I stumbled across your blog recently and this has to be one of the most delicious posts I've ever seen - love love love all your fabric and buttons. I think my mum has some old purple sheets like that retro fabric - must make sure she never chucks them - or knows to send them my way!

OH MY!! You are a woman after my own heart. I think we were twins separated at birth!! :)

It all started today while I was looking on line for craft space ideas. Mine is quite a mess you see. I stumbled across your blog on a google search and now I am TOTALLY inspired to rethink my space and see what creative ideas I can come up with the organize my lovely treasures. I too have buttons, LOTS of buttons, lace, ribbon, Fabric, specialty fabrics, vintage fabrics, home dec fabrics......did I mention I have TONS of fabrics and no place to put them. The majority live in bins up in my attic and I can never find what I KNOW I have somewhere in one of those bins.....now where was I? Oh, yeah and I have patterns and tablecloths....oh dear this could take forever, you get the idea. Thank you for this post. I can't wait to get home tonight and start planning my space out. :) Signing off now...

I know I'm late in the game here but do you by chance have plans for your square cubbies or know what material you used?
